Jamie leads home the pack in quality race
THE latest race in the Central Athletic Club Cross Country Series held on a frosty morning in Fintry on Saturday saw another fine turnout of athletes and quality running from first to last over the one mile course.
It was Under-17 Lewis Hetman who set the early pace but Under-15 Jamie Paterson relentlessly pulled in the deficit to win in style in 4min 41secs with Lewis coming through in a close second place (4.46).
Aidan Cameron had another good run to finish as second Under-15 (4.49) ahead of the first Under-13 Anthony Quinn (4.54).
Lewis Strachan (4.58), Iain Davies (5.02) and Rory Strachan (5.06) all finished strongly in close order.
Ross Hutchison (5.16) came home well as top Under-11 boy ahead of the ever improving Ben Parkinson (5.19).
Scott Fleming came through well, also finishing in 5.19 ahead of Campbell McNicol and Matthew Anderson (both 5.27) with Michael Hewitt (5.32) and Calum Finlay (5.34) a few strides behind.
The quality performances continued from Lewis Stewart (5.42), Alexander Ogilvie (5.44), Sandy Holl (5.45), Angus Boermans (5.45), Thomas Hanson (5.49), Calum Robertson (6.02) and first Under-9 runner Kyle Howie (6.09).
Neil Anderson (6.14), Miles Boermans (6.17), Calum Peebles (6.20), Ben Petrie (6.22), Ruari Doherty (6.27) and Ben Greengrass (6.29) all competed well, while Jonathon Hanson (6.34) looked good throughout as he led home determined runs from Anthony Eckersley (6.34), Mikey Heron (6.47), David Niven (6.51), Jack Rice (6.56) and Tom Roberts (7.37).
Under-13 girl Kate Gallagher (5.09) showed her increased confidence to come home as first girl and eighth overall, while Eilidh Russell had another excellent run with (5.19), leading home first Under-11 girl Jenny Walls (5.35).
Jane Brisbane ran strongly for (5.36), ahead of strong efforts from Skye Henderson (5.48), Sian Scott-Angell (5.50), Lauren Turnbull (5.55) and Elizabeth Thomson (6.00).
Kirsten Reay and Tara Brisbane finished together in 6.07 to hold off Eleanor Hanson (6.10), with Jenny Holl (6.21) ahead of determined efforts from Eve Ogilvie (6.22), Charlie Gallgher (6.24), Becky Dunlop (6.26) and Sophie Allan (6.33).
Rena Fleming (6.43), as normal, worked hard throughout to finish ahead of more strong runs from Millie Stokoe (6.44), Darcy Baxter (6.46), Fiona Miller (6.48) and Rachel Methven (6.54).
A group of Under-11 girls raced each other for the line, with Aithne Lawrence (7.13), Ellie Brown (7.28), Molly Dunbar (7.28), Erin Currie (7.34), Iona Sanderson (7.35), Abby Stewart (7.38) and Molly Waddell (7.48) all showing great potential.
The series now moves to Queen Victoria School on Saturday 11 February to double up with the Club Cross Country Championships for all age groups.
Meanwhile, on Sunday there was a good turnout of Central Veteran's Teams at the Scottish Veterans Harriers Road Relay Championships in Strathclyde Park over a 3.8-mile course.
Pride of place went to the Over-50's team of Hugh Kerr (21.53), Hugh Buchanan (22.35), Liam McCabe (22.40) and Steve Laing (22.05) who finished second overall in this age group, only some 46 seconds behind winners Ron Hill Cambuslang Harriers.
The Central B team in this category of Allan Gall (25.09), Cameron Campbell (25.18), Derek Easton (27.21) and John Millar (27.01) also acquitted themselves well.
In the main race, the team of Gordon Crawford (20.11), Alan Hume (21.28), David Eckersley (22.09) and Phil Hendry (23.49) also made an impact coming home in an excellent ninth place overall.
