No it's not Mars - it's the stony path to the summit of Schiehallion

Alloa's Kenny Wilson is continuing his training for a trek up Africa's highest peak - Mount Kilimanjaro - for Asthma UK. His latest blog covers the popular walk up Schiehallion.

Schiehallion is probably one of Scotland's most famous mountains - in fact it was used in an experiment in 1774 to measure the mass of the earth.

To get there follow the B846 then take the sign saying Schiehallion road which will lead to the parking at Braes of Foss car park, there is a charge for parking with the funds going to The John Muir Trust, there is a plaque at the car park explaining the experiment carried out on the mountain and the work being carried out by the trust

The path to Schiehallion begins at the far end of the car park which takes you along a constructed path; this leads you by some old sheep pens, follow the path till it comes to an abrupt end and a sea of boulders with a very faint traces of the path takes over through this very awkward section which is unpleasant to walk on and greater care should be taken in the wet. But this is a very straight forward walk.

Due to Schiehallion's popularity there are traces of plastic bottle tops and tissues at the summit which is something no one wants to see so please take your rubbish home.
