Jobs boost for Alloa as new care home opens to residents

MORE than 100 jobs have been created through the opening of a luxury new care home in Alloa Park Drive on Friday.
Parklands is a state-of-the-art, purpose-built care home which represents a £4.7 million investment by Meallmore, one of Scotland's leading providers of nursing and residential care.
Pat Sludden, from Sauchie, will be responsible for the home's maintenance and having previously worked in call centres he is looking forward to a new challenge.
He said, "This is a totally different role for me. I am delighted to be given the opportunity to work in my local community. The care home is very impressive inside and out and I am looking forward to this exciting new challenge."
Meallmore has 19 homes in Scotland for elderly and frail people and opened its first 24 years ago in Daviot.
Christine Watson, mum of two from Kincardine, has recently been employed as a deputy manager for the Alloa home.
She had previously worked as a nurse for the NHS and is delighted to take up her new post.
She said, "It's lovely to be working in a brand new, state-of-the-art home which is full of the latest equipment.
"We are all very excited to be working for Meallmore, who have a fantastic reputation and look forward to introducing our first resident."
Marshall Construction handed over the keys to the 62-bed home that will offer nursing care for frail elderly people, with specialist services for people who suffer from dementia and its related conditions.
Care home manager Julie Wyllie commented, "It is a huge boost to the Forth Valley area to have a care facility of this standard and quality, and it will be a great benefit to the whole community."
The development includes an activity and reminiscence room, six dining rooms to offer greater choice, as well as a hair and beauty salon for residents.
Gerry Hennessey, managing director of Meallmore Ltd, said, "Parklands has been designed to offer the highest-quality facilities for our residents. We have been inundated with applications for the jobs that we have created, from nursing and care staff, to hotel services and catering jobs. This has allowed us to put together a fantastic professional team to give our residents the highest standard of care. We are excited to be able to start welcoming people to what we hope will be a home away from home at Parklands."
